Eating oats and especially with prunes is a healthy way to begin the day and also helps keep you regular. Of course this simple recipe is also very helpful for constipation relief. Thankfully prunes are tasty and naturally sweet with the added benefit of being packed with essential minerals. As with most things in life, too much one thing can have an adverse effect and prunes are no exception, so use in moderation!

Use your favourite kind of oats and prepare as normal. If you don’t have time to make a jar of stewed prunes, then add a few prunes to the pot of cooking oats or alternatively add a few to a cup of boiling water to soften before adding to a bowl of oats.
How to make Stewed Prunes
500g Montagu dried prunes
1 to 1 1/2 cups water
1/4 cup of sugar (optional)
1/2 sliced lemon
1 stick cinnamon
Bring water and dried prunes to boiling point. Reduce the heat and gently simmer, about 20 minutes. Add the sugar and cook for an additional 10 minutes. At this point you can add the lemon and stick cinnamon. Allow to cool. If you have used prunes with pips, make an incision on the side of prune to remove the pip or alternatively use pitted prunes.
Keep prunes in a jar and use when required.
