MONTAGU SUPPORTS SUSTAINABLE EMPOWERMENT PROJECT

Montagu Dried Fruit and Nuts recently partnered with the Community Action Partnership (CAP), as one of the proud sponsor of the CAPability protective workshop for disabled persons. The sponsorship included setting up a new Montagu-franchise in the SwellenMark shopping Centre, Swellendam to support the running costs of the newly launched workshop also in the centre.

Giving people with disability an opportunity to work and earn an income gives them a sense of belonging and self-worth. The primary activities at the workshop includes technical and life skills training, as well as physical activity after work.

CAP had a workforce with a capacity to do just that. That was the beginning of a mutually beneficial relationship,” says De Wet van Rooyen, Operations Manager for Montagu Dried Fruit and Nuts.

“What drew us to CAP was that they are an empowerment organisation that makes a long-term sustainable difference in the lives of those they work with,” says Van Rooyen.  “One of MDFN’s core values as an organisation is to unlock talents and human abilities and at the CAPability Workshop individuals with special talents are given an opportunity where their talents and abilities can be unlocked, expressed and developed in a non-threatening environment,” says Van Rooyen.

When asked to share some of their success stories Smit commented: “We have a lot of individual success stories, but the biggest success story is to see people evolve from being totally shy and introverted to individuals that are proud of their work, who start dreaming and believing in themselves again.”

CAP will be producing the new “Montasatie”, a dried fruit skewer and the “Sunshine Surprise”, choice dried fruit with nuts filling for Montagu Dried Fruit and Nuts.  These two products will be available exclusively at Montagu Dried Fruit and Nuts stores and will directly benefit CAP with the constant work flow for their staff. CAP is also the proud new franchisee of the Swellendam Montagu franchise with profits from the store directly benefiting the workshop.

“As a proud South African brand our vision is to have a successful organisation that benefits the wider SA economy,” says Van Rooyen. This is one of the reasons why Montagu decided to franchise and also why they’ve now invested in an organisation like CAP. “We are very proud to be a part of this workshop that offers people that are slightly different an equal opportunity to enjoy the benefits of employment and contribute to their families, community and the SA economy,” concludes Van Rooyen.
